Extra, extra

I'm loving the Library widget. Adding it couldn't be easier thanks to the lovely people at the UL. I'm finding that these alerting tools have become increasingly useful for cutting down the amount of time spent chasing information from different sites, just by dint of loading as much as possible into iGoogle.

In case it's of any interest, my Other Things this week have involved a trip to see One Man, two Guv'nors at the National Theatre. Utterly fantastic production - highly recommended.

Twitterfeed

  • Just looking into the extra things for this week, it strikes me that Twitterfeed will come into its own once we begin blogging in earnest from the Museum. As SPRI's library is for reference only, I struggle to think of ways in which we might usefully blog or tweet - there doesn't seem to be enough news to warrant doing this at present, and we see a good many of our users in person every day. The Museum, on the other hand, has over forty thousand visitors a year and a programme of exhibitions and outreach activities for which their is an eager audience, so it makes sense to use as many means as possible to reach them.

Extra things, beyond 2.0

Well, that was easier than I thought. I had some fun changing stuff around on my blog and added a widget or two and felt very self-satisfied and then ran completely out of time to do anything else, as the real world finally caught up with me. Last week was a blur of meetings, deadlines, reports and sessions in the recording studio, as we begin to put together the museum's audio guide. Sounds glamorous? It's really not.

23 Things is, however, having a very salutary effect. It's made me realise that I need to do 23 OTHER Things to improve my work/life balance (or as my wise-beyond-her-years daughter has it, 'Your work/work balance, mum'. So the extra thing for Week 1 was 'go home when the library closes on at least two evenings in the week.' I'm proud of mself - I did actually manage to do it. (My house is also tidier as a result.)
